You said that Obama's Spreading the Wealth around is pure socialism. America has been spreading the wealth around for over 100 years. The income tax system is progressive and taxes the rich more than the poor. School property taxes are based on housing value and not children and spread the wealth from the empty nesters to the new families. Social security spreads the wealth from the working to the elderly. However, the GOP's taxation policy favors the upper 5% so that they don't have to shoulder their fair share of the society's costs and shifts it down to the middle class. It's not about spreading the wealth, that's a given. It's about those that have doing their part to improve all of America, not just their own neighborhood.

The entire concept of taxes is that the government collects money from us and spreads it around (you know, for stuff like roads, sewers, fire trucks). Taxation is not Socialism...you must not have been paying attention in civics class!

rpmranch, SS is the fault of the Republicans. When Bush came into power and the Republicans was running the show, they kept digging into our SS savings to pay for the war. Now they want to privatize our SS so that the market can take care of us. Remember, the Dems rely on Gov't intervention and the Repubs rely on Market intervention.
